Size Guide & Body Measurement Chart for Indian Women
Finding the perfect fit is the single most important factor in looking and feeling great in your clothes. A beautifully designed outfit in the wrong size will never look as good as a simple piece that fits you perfectly. At Label DC, we want every woman to feel confident about her size selection when shopping online. This comprehensive size guide includes detailed measurement instructions, size charts for every garment type we offer, and expert tips for achieving the ideal fit — whether you are shopping for coord sets, dresses, jumpsuits, or gowns.
1. How to Measure Yourself at Home
Accurate measurements are the foundation of a great fit. Here is how to measure yourself at home with just a flexible measuring tape.
What You Will Need
- A flexible measuring tape (fabric or plastic, not metal)
- A mirror (to check tape placement)
- A notepad to record your measurements
- Wear fitted clothing or undergarments while measuring
Bust Measurement
Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it parallel to the floor. The tape should be snug but not tight — you should be able to fit one finger between the tape and your body. Stand naturally and do not hold your breath. Record this measurement.
Waist Measurement
Locate your natural waistline — it is the narrowest part of your torso, typically about 2-3 cm above your belly button. Wrap the tape around this point, keeping it parallel to the floor. Do not suck in your stomach — stand naturally and breathe normally. Record this measurement.
Hip Measurement
Stand with your feet together. Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks, keeping it parallel to the floor. This is usually about 18-23 cm (7-9 inches) below your natural waistline. Record this measurement.
Shoulder Width
Measure from the edge of one shoulder to the edge of the other, across the back. It helps to have someone assist you with this measurement. The tape should follow the natural curve of your shoulders.
Arm Length
Bend your elbow slightly. Measure from the shoulder point to the wrist bone, following the outside of your arm past the elbow.
Length (Shoulder to Hem)
For dresses and gowns, measure from the highest point of your shoulder straight down to where you want the hemline to fall.
Pro Tip: Always take measurements twice to ensure accuracy. If the two numbers differ, take a third measurement and use the average. Measurements taken in the evening may differ slightly from morning measurements due to normal body fluctuations — this is completely normal.
2. General Size Chart — Label DC
Our size chart is designed specifically for Indian women's body measurements. All measurements are in inches, with centimetre equivalents provided.
| Size | Bust (in) | Bust (cm) | Waist (in) | Waist (cm) | Hip (in) | Hip (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| XS | 32 | 81 | 26 | 66 | 35 | 89 |
| S | 34 | 86 | 28 | 71 | 37 | 94 |
| M | 36 | 91 | 30 | 76 | 39 | 99 |
| L | 38 | 97 | 32 | 81 | 41 | 104 |
| XL | 40 | 102 | 34 | 86 | 43 | 109 |
| XXL | 42 | 107 | 36 | 91 | 45 | 114 |
| 3XL | 44 | 112 | 38 | 97 | 47 | 119 |
Important: These are body measurements, not garment measurements. Our garments include appropriate ease (extra room) built into the construction for comfort and movement.
3. Coord Sets — Fit Guide
Coord sets are two-piece matching outfits — typically a top and bottom in the same fabric and print. Getting the right fit is crucial because both pieces need to work together.
Top Fit
- The shoulder seam should sit at the edge of your natural shoulder — not drooping down the arm or pulling inward
- You should be able to raise your arms comfortably without the top riding up excessively
- The bustline should sit smoothly without gaping, pulling, or creating horizontal wrinkles
Bottom Fit
- Pants and palazzos should sit comfortably at your natural waist without digging in or sliding down
- You should be able to sit down and bend without discomfort at the waist
- For wide-leg styles, the fabric should drape smoothly — not bunch or cling
Coord Set Size Recommendation
| Your Body Type | Size Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Bust and hips are similar size | Go by your larger measurement |
| Bust is 2+ inches larger than hips | Size up based on bust; bottoms may need tailoring |
| Hips are 2+ inches larger than bust | Size up based on hips; top may need tailoring |
| Between two sizes | Size up for a relaxed fit; size down for a fitted look |
4. Dresses & Gowns — Fit Guide
Whether you are shopping for an A-line dress, a cape dress, or a floor-length gown, here is how to ensure the best fit.
Fitted Dresses
- Primary measurement: Bust. For fitted dresses, your bust measurement is the most critical.
- The dress should skim your body without creating pulling lines across the bust or hip
- The waistline of the dress should align with your natural waist
- You should be able to sit, walk, and breathe comfortably
A-Line & Flared Dresses
- Primary measurement: Bust (for fitted bodice) or Shoulder width (for drop-shoulder styles)
- The bodice should fit well through the bust and shoulders; the flare takes care of the rest
- If between sizes, choose the size that fits your bust; the A-line cut will accommodate hips
Gowns
- Consider both bust and length — if you are petite, you may need the hem shortened by a tailor
- For gowns with defined waistlines, the waist placement is critical — it should sit at your natural waist
- Floor-length gowns should just brush the floor when wearing the heels you plan to wear with them
5. Jumpsuits — Fit Guide
Jumpsuits are one-piece garments, which means fit is even more critical than separates. Multiple measurements need to align simultaneously.
Critical Measurements for Jumpsuits
| Measurement | Why It Matters | Fit Check |
|---|---|---|
| Bust | Top half of jumpsuit needs to fit through the bust | No gaping or pulling |
| Waist | Jumpsuit waist must align with your natural waist | Comfortable when seated |
| Hip | Must accommodate your hips for ease of movement | Smooth drape, no clinging |
| Torso Length | One-piece construction means torso length is critical | No pulling at crotch area |
| Inseam | Leg length must be appropriate for your height | Hem hits at desired point |
Size Tip: If you are between sizes for jumpsuits, we recommend sizing up. It is much easier (and cheaper) to have a slightly larger jumpsuit tailored down than to alter a too-small one.
6. Sharara Sets — Fit Guide
Sharara sets typically include a top (kurta or short top) and sharara pants (wide-legged, often flared from the knee or hip).
- Top: Size according to your bust measurement. The top should fit comfortably through the bust and shoulders.
- Sharara: These are designed to be wide and flowy. Size according to your waist measurement. The elastic or drawstring waistband should sit comfortably at your natural waist.
- Length: Shararas should ideally just brush the floor or sit 1 inch above. If you are petite, consider hemming.
7. Kaftans — Fit Guide
Kaftans are the most forgiving garment in terms of fit — their loose, flowing design accommodates a range of body shapes.
- Primary measurement: Bust. Even though kaftans are loose, the bust area determines the overall drape.
- Kaftans should fall smoothly from the shoulders without excessive fabric pooling at the front
- If you plan to belt your kaftan, ensure there is enough fabric to create a beautiful blouson effect above the belt
- Length is flexible — kaftans look beautiful at midi, below-knee, and floor length
8. Common Fit Issues & Solutions
| Issue | Likely Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Horizontal pulling lines across the bust | Bust area is too small | Size up; or choose styles with more bust ease |
| Gaping at the neckline | Bust is smaller than the garment size | Size down or have the neckline altered |
| Waistband digging in | Waist measurement too tight | Size up; look for elastic or adjustable waistbands |
| Shoulders dropping past shoulder point | Size too large or drop-shoulder design | Size down; check if it is an intentional design feature |
| Dress rides up when walking | Hip area is too tight | Size up; choose A-line or flared silhouettes |
| Jumpsuit pulling at the crotch | Torso length is too short for your body | Size up; look for styles with longer torso construction |
| Hem pooling on the floor | Garment too long for your height | Have it hemmed by a tailor (simple alteration) |
9. Between Two Sizes? Here Is What to Do
If your measurements fall between two sizes, here is our guidance based on garment type:
| Garment Type | Between Sizes? Go... | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Coord Sets | Size UP | Two-piece sets need room in both top and bottom |
| Fitted Dresses | Size UP | Easier to alter down; too-tight is uncomfortable |
| A-Line Dresses | Size DOWN | Flared skirt accommodates; focus on bust fit |
| Jumpsuits | Size UP | One-piece; multiple measurements must align |
| Sharara Sets | Size UP | Shararas are designed to be flowy and relaxed |
| Kaftans | Size DOWN | Loose silhouette; sizing up may look oversized |
| Gowns | Size UP | Formal pieces need perfect fit; easier to tailor down |
10. International Size Conversion
If you are used to international sizing, here is how our sizes compare:
| Label DC | US Size | UK Size | EU Size |
|---|---|---|---|
| XS | 0-2 | 4-6 | 32-34 |
| S | 4-6 | 8-10 | 36-38 |

11. Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know my correct size for Label DC clothing?
Take your bust, waist, and hip measurements at home using a flexible measuring tape. Compare them to our size chart above. Your correct size is determined by your largest measurement — typically bust for tops and dresses, and hips for bottoms. When in doubt, refer to the garment-specific fit guides above.
What if my bust says M but my hips say L?
This is very common! For dresses and jumpsuits, go with the larger size (L in this case) and have the bust area tailored if needed. For coord sets, you could potentially order different sizes for top and bottom if available, or go with the larger size and have the smaller area altered.
Do your clothes run true to size?
Yes, Label DC clothing is designed to run true to standard Indian sizing. Our size chart reflects actual body measurements, and our garments include appropriate ease for comfort. If you are familiar with your measurements, our sizes will be consistent with your expectations.
How much ease should I expect in the garments?
Ease varies by garment type. Fitted dresses have 1-2 inches of ease at the bust and hip. A-line dresses are fitted at the bust with more ease through the skirt. Kaftans have generous ease throughout. Each product listing includes specific garment measurements.
Can I get custom sizing or alterations?
While we currently offer standard sizing (XS to 3XL), most of our garments can be easily altered by a local tailor. Common alterations include hemming, taking in the waist, and adjusting sleeve length. For specific sizing queries, reach out to us on Instagram @dcmumbai and we will be happy to help.
What if my order does not fit?
We want you to love your Label DC pieces. If something does not fit as expected, please refer to our exchange and return policy. We recommend measuring yourself carefully using the guide above before ordering to minimise returns.
Are measurements the same across all Label DC garment types?
Our base size chart is consistent across all garment types. However, the fit experience varies — a size M kaftan will feel much looser than a size M fitted dress because of the different silhouettes and ease built into each design.
